FAQ

Q: What are the performance differences between stepper motors and brushless motors?

A: 1. The torque of the stepper motor is relatively large at low speed, while the torque of brushless DC is relatively large at medium and high speed.

2. Stepper motor is a kind of low-speed and high-torque motor, and the speed of most applications is between 600~1500rpm, while the brushless motor can produce stable torque from the low-speed range to the high-speed range, and its maximum speed can reach thousands to tens of thousands of rpm.

3. The speed and position of the stepper motor are controlled by the open-loop command pulse, which does not require a feedback circuit, but there is a problem of step loss. Brushless DC motors need to control speed through feedback from speed sensors to achieve constant speed rotation.

4. The life of the bearing determines the life of the stepper motor and brushless dc motor, but brushless dc working life is longer than stepper motor.

5. The installation size of stepper motor is mostly industrial standard, which is relatively easy to obtain and has more varieties. However, brushless DC motors are mostly customized for special applications in the industry, and there is basically no industry standard size.

6. Compared with brushless DC motors, stepper motors have greater noise and vibration, especially at low speeds.

7. Stepper motors are cheaper than brushless DC motors because stepper motors usually do not require feedback sensors.
